Inpatient / Residential

Making the decision to seek treatment is difficult, especially for individuals who spend all of their time helping others. The stigma surrounding addiction prevents many from admitting they may have a problem with alcohol, addictive medications or substances fear that it makes them seem weak or inferior. In reality, nothing could be further from the truth — asking for help with is one the bravest things you can do to rebuild a better life.

At First Responder Wellness, we’d like to help you in your journey toward recovery. Our programs are specially geared toward the men and women who put their lives on the line for others as emergency personnel and have experienced trauma. We understand how regular exposure to stressful, high-risk situations can affect an individual and have created a residential program that combines addiction treatment and mental health services to ensure lasting recovery.

What is Residential Treatment?

Residential treatment, also known as inpatient treatment, is one of the most common treatment options for those looking to recover from substance abuse. Patients live on-site during the course of their stay, allowing them to focus on healing without any distractions or interruptions. While immersed in a recovery-oriented environment and surrounded by supportive peers and culturally competent providers, patients participate in a variety of holistic and evidence-based therapies. The goal is to help them discover the roots of their addiction and develop new coping mechanisms for overcoming barriers to recovery such as triggers, cravings and stressors.

First Responder Wellness’ residential treatment is designed to specifically address the unique concerns of law enforcement officers, firefighters, paramedics, EMTs, corrections officers.
And other first responders with a program that emphasizes mental health and trauma support. The demands of being a first responder can take its toll and many public safety professionals suffer from anxiety, depression, PTSD and other mental health concerns. By strategically combining mental health care with addiction treatment, our program helps clients understand their substance abuse in a new light and empowers them to effectively manage their symptoms long after treatment.

Who Needs Residential Treatment?

Residential treatment is an effective approach to wellness. The continual access to behavioral health specialists, a supportive environment and evidence-based therapies help to remove many of the roadblocks that interfere with healing and engage patients in the transformational experience of recovery. Due to this, most patients transition into the inpatient level of care after detox, including those who:

  • Have recently completed detox
  • Need a structured, recovery-oriented environment
  • Previously tried other levels of care (IOP, PHP, etc.) without success
  • Have a history of relapse
  • Struggle with substance use and mental health concerns
  • Require more long-term care
  • Want a more robust selection of therapeutic treatments
  • Are committed to the goal of lasting recovery

While residential care is effective for people in many different situations, factors such as cost, location, family or career obligations, recovery goals and more should all be considered when choosing the right treatment for you. Our addiction experts can help you explore your options and find the appropriate level of care based on your needs to ensure that you have the best possible chance at achieving long-term recovery.

What Can I Expect in Residential Treatment?

During their time in residential treatment at First Responder Wellness, patients live on-site and are immersed in a variety of therapies and programs that encourage meaningful progress toward lasting sobriety. This is extremely beneficial, especially in early recovery, when harmful influences, settings or temptations can derail progress and trigger a relapse. Having a safe, stable atmosphere away from home helps patients to take a step back from their daily lives and the pressures of being a first responder to truly concentrate on healing. Some of the techniques we use to encourage lasting recovery include:

  • Individual and group therapy
  • Proven psychotherapies (CBT, EMDR, etc.)
  • Mindfulness and meditation
  • Relapse prevention
  • Trauma services
  • Mental health care
  • Healthy coping mechanisms
  • Mental Health Services
  • Anger management
  • Stress management
  • Occupational therapy
  • Specialized case management

We understand that there is no one path to recovery, so treatment plans are flexible and designed for each individual. Combined with specialized programs that address the unique needs of first responders, clients will be able to hone their recovery skills and rebuild the confidence they’ll need to transition back into their professional lives with their sobriety intact.
